Kat rode with us through the Black Hills of South Dakota, Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway, The Wildlife Loop, Spearfish Canyon, and on Main St in Sturgis.
Sue from Kansas emailed us in March 2006:
I live close to Wichita, Kansas. Have been riding 5 years this time. I'm 57 and have 1998 883, but having a custom being built as we speak, from Draggin Customs in Kentucky, so will update the pic in 4-6 weeks.
Hi Diane,
My husband built the bike in Feb of 2002, took him 27 days. He did all the welding, fabricating and painting himself.
This year, while in Sturgis, as you can see we had some of the bike builders sign the tank for us.
We've had it to Daytona, Sturgis 3 times, and to Laconia.
We ride here at home as much as the weather will allow and I often take it to work where I tend bar.

Diane's Fall 2005 interview with her sister Donna from Colorado:
Diane: What made you decide to start riding?
Donna: Well I have always loved Harleys. I used to be the bitch on the back when I rode with my old boyfriend, Mark, many moons ago. Then I figured if my sister Diane can do it, then I know I can. I was very proud of her when she started to ride and a little, well ok, a lot jealous.
Diane: How did you learn to ride?
Donna: We went camping with our friends, Venus and Bill, and they brought their dirt bikes. Her husband taught me on Venus's XR80. I loved it. Then I got on Doug's Low Rider in Florida. That's what did me in. Diane suggested that I take the motorcycle course, to get the basics down, and to learn some of the safety issues. I signed myself and my husband Bill up for the next course. He had never been on a bike before. We had a blast. The motorcycle course taught me some safety issues that come up when you are riding, and what to do and not to do in those situations.
Diane: What is your favorite riding experience so far?
Bill and I rode to Denver thru Winter Park and over Berthoud Pass, with an elevation of over 11,000 feet, and into Idaho Springs, We then went up thru Blackhawk into Estes Park thru Rocky Mountain National Park where the elevation is over 12,000 feet. All I have to say is if you are into riding, Colorado has some of the most beautiful roads in the country. We saw a bull moose on the ride and it was breath taking. Pictures could never do this place justice. Being on a motorcycle was so much cooler then doing that trip in a car. You could smell all the diferent smells and looking over some of the drop-off's was frightening. I learned how to go around corners on a winding road on this ride.
Diane: What was your first bike?
Donna: My first bike was a 1986 Sportster 1100 that I bought in August of 2004. What a great bike to learn on! It was light and easy to maneuver, but very shakey on long rides. The tank is very little so I needed to gas up every 90 miles.
Diane: What are you riding now?
Donna: In the summer of 2005, I bought a 1997 Dyna Glide Convertible.
Diane: What advice would you give to other women (or men) who are starting out?
Donna: Take that riding course! Anybody can teach you how to ride a motorcycle, but this class teaches you a lot of safety issues. Have fun and ride only within your comfort level. Take it slow at first, then build up to a comfortable speed. I love my motorcycle and have have a lot of fun with my husband, Bill. We look forward to riding to the giant redwood trees in California, and to Yellow Stone National Park and our first trip to Sturgis. I also Highly recommend doing a poker run. I had a blast, met a lot of really nice people, and won two hundred dollars with 4 sixes in my hand.
